For those of you who downloaded the draft
version of our manual for the PMDX-120
Parallel Port Accessory Module, or were put
off by the large file size, a new completed
version of the manual has been posted to our
web site.
http://www.pmdx.com
The new file is only 263K bytes. Acrobat seems
to have a quirk about not liking dashed or
broken lines. They had inflated the file size
by almost a megabyte.
Also to answer a couple of common questions....
1) Yes, the board does supply power to operate
the opto-isolators on the input to Gecko or
API motor drivers.
2) The PMDX-120 itself does not have opto-isolators
on the step and direction signals. These are usually
provided inside the motor driver. Each opto-isolator
will slightly degrade the shape of the step pulse
and trying to put them on the PMDX-120 would result
in step signals passing through two isolators when
used with Gecko or similar drives; not a good idea.
Cheers,
Steve Stallings
