I have a mill drill with ballscrews and dc brush type servo motors. I
use a 3/1 ratio timing pulleys and belts. I used the XL037 series. I get
over 120 IPM in rapid moves. I used to sell these servo motors but ran
out. Jeff Davis has some new ones for a reasonable price. I believe he
is on this group. If not contact me off line and I will get his url for
you. Steppers are a little cheaper than servo motors but servos are so
much smoother and faster with more top end power. For the minor price
difference I would get a servo system. See my web page at
www.seanet.com/~dmauch for servo system products.

I have a Grizzly mill/drill model G1006. I have my ball screws and
need to figure out my drives.
I'm still trying to find low cost servos. Do they exist? I've
looked on ebay for weeks now. I can't find 3 the same and I'm not
actually certain I know what to buy. As far as rpm and oz/in...
What has everyone else used? Am I wasting my time looking?
Should I or can I use steppers? What are the drawbacks?
What kind of table forces and feed rates have you guys gotten in a
machine this size? What should I be trying to get?
