My Universal Stepper board has 4 axes of digital step rate generators, 4
axes of encoder counters to count step pulses OR measure position of
the motors, 16 channels of opto-isolated digital inputs and 8 positions for
solid state relays for spindle, coolant, stepper drive power, etc. It is controlled
by the parallel port, which is still on all laptops that I've seen.
