Hi, Ron Ginger:

At today's CNC seminar at the N.A.M.E.S. show, you mentioned that it would
be nice to have a language such as Visual Basic for the Linux OS. If you're
not adverse to coding in Pascal, Borland offers Kylix, an object based RAD
system for Linux. It essentially is a Linux version of their Delphi
compiler, and uss the KDE graphical shell for Linux as the basis of its GUI
capability.

The development system should be a 'drag and drop, click to open' IDE
similar to Visual Basic. While I've not used Kylix, I have used Delphi for
some factory floor control applications, and am impressed with its
capabilities. I believe that several of the components offered in the Delphi
system are more versatile than similar components offered with VB.

One version of Kylix is aimed at open development, and is offered at no
charge (just the time for the download). You might want to take a test drive
and let us know what you think.
