Actually, steel makes a very good straight edge if you properly stress
relieve it. Normalizing, followed by cryogenic treatment prior to scraping
will make it more stable than cast iron. Steel also has nearly twice the
stiffness (200GPa vs. 117GPa). It is just such a PITA to scrape.

Michael's scraping business went bankrupt last October. Last time I heard
from him he was having hard times.
