I am assuming you have a bipolar driver....

Grab an ohm-meter. Any combo that does not have infinite
resistance will either have 1*R or 2*R (R being maybe around 1 ohm),
but definately you will see values of 1*R or 2*R or infinity.

If you see infinity (ie no conductance), you have a wire from
each of the separate coils.

If you see 2*R then you are getting the two ends of one coil.

Black (or White) to one of the ends should give 1*R.

Therefore the combination you most likely want is:
- Black and one end (giving 1*R ohms).
- White and one end (giving 1*R ohms).

Such a wiring scheme is called half-coil. That also is how
the stepper is rated (in amps), so you can set that nameplate
value rating onto your bipolar driver.
