Well, first, you have to hook up all the connections with the
right polarity. If the amps have differential inputs, you can hook
up the tach, command and motor with either polarity. If it doesn't
have differential inputs, you still have the tach and the motor
to get right. I'm pretty sure these amps need a DC tach to
sense motor velocity. If the tach and the motor are "phased"
wrong, the amp will run away as soon as it is enabled. Turn the
current limit way down at first to make the runaways less violent.
Once you have the phasing right, you should be able to connect a
flashlight battery to the command input and get it to move one way
or the other. then, you connect the CNC computer, and check that
movement of the encoder causes the CNC to generate a correcting
command velocity to move the motor the right way. If not, you
can change the output polarity in the .ini file to make it move the
right way. Then, you get into tuning to optimize the performance
of the servo loops.
