RE: [CAD_CAM_EDM_DRO] Accuracy

Jason I have just converted my enco mill that had an anilam control that
used glass scales to use the gecko 340. The system used anilam linear
scales and I get 2540 steps per inch of resolution. .0004" . It would be
possible to get greater resolution with rotary encoders but then you have
backlash to contend with. There is some hunting on the handles when the
table stops but I have not been able to determine if there is any movement
of the table. I am still working out the details of this conversion. The
2540 steps come from the .02mm grating on the anilam scales whick gives 1270
lines per inch and with the ab output giving 2 pulses per line I get 2540
counts or steps per inch.

Just wondering what exactly determines the final accuracy of a cnc, is it a
combination of the leadscrews and driving motors?

Also can a gecko servo drive be used with a glass scale instead of a rotary
encoder and would this give greater accuracy?
