Arne,

I don't know if it is relevant or not but you can use the ALT/F4 combination
to shut down all the running programs - you have to do it once for each
program including any that run in the background but I don't think doing too
many would be a problem - and then do an ENTER to agree to the 'shutdown
now' dialog. I don't know what the ASCII equivalents are but perhaps a batch
file that sends say 10 ALT/F4's and then an ENTER would do the trick.
