Greetings to all,
I still searching for an inexpensive DRO for my mill, currently
focusing on used, higher end units such as from local shops or eBay.
My application will be on a small Rockwell vertical mill, which has
6.5x16" of travel.
In the course of my bargain hunting, I've run across many scales,
almost always too long for my mill. Does anyone in the group know
which brands or types of scales can be shortened (cut) to length
(besides the Shooting Star brand)?
I've sent off a few emails to manufacturers such as Anilam and
Acurite requesting info on current and past products, but response is
slow. I've talked to a few sellers, but the usual response is " it
looks like it can be cut, but I cant garantee it will work". From
what I can gather, "glass" scales cant be cut (I dont even know where
the glass part is!), where as some metallic models can, while some
cant.
Sorry for my ignorance, but trolling around in the used DRO market,
its hard to figure out exactly which scale is on the machine, let
alone if it can be modified.
Thanks in advance for any clues! Jeff
