Chains do not convert uniform rotary movement into uniform linear movement.
The problem is worse with smaller sprockets. Use Berg's cable belt system
to drive the axes; it has a contant pitchline which sprockets do not. BTW,
you can put both X and Y drives on the base plate ad not have to piggy-back
one of them. I'll provide details of the cable and drive layout for that if
you like.
