Hi all,
First of all - I would like to thank everybody for the input on
the Win98
"freeze up" problem. I have corrected it now, - but please
don't ask me how
and what the problem really was. ( have no clue :)
Then about servo/ steppers. Well, thanks for not being annoyed
by my inputs.
And I don't think any is for/against either system. Both are
great, just
depends on what you would like to do.
Jon Elson is right about Linux - you can modify it as he says.
So, for any
user, - when EMC runs a machine, - nobody needs to know any unix
stuff. It is
a bit funny that this has not been said before.
Then some real applause to Hans Wedemeyer - with some
apologize:
I asked about - how to get Win98 to shutdown from the command
line.
He has made a very nice program, that will do this.
This may be used for several things, - but I am afraid that I
have mislead him a bit.
I wanted to "login" to a Win98 box, and shut it down over the
network.
( I don't know if anyone remember this - but I asked about the
same thing a year ago. Then there has been other asking me about
it too )
When I posted this question, I thought I might be able to do it -
as I do on the linux machines, - if I only could get it on a
command line instead of mouse clicks. But at the moment, it looks
like I was wrong. I can't get Win98 to execute the Exitwin
program remote with samba client, as I thought I could. ( or
smbrun, or rlogin )
So at the moment I have to apologize for not stating that I wanted
to do it over the network. It looks like Win98 can be set up with
a login from a modem, - but I can't find out if it is possible to
make it accept a local area network. Somebody know this ?
I feel bad about the way I have mislead Hans, because his program
looks very nice, and it must have cost him time and effort.
The strange thing about all this, - is that I can't understand
that nobody seems to know how to shutdown a win box over a
network. I just can't imagine that such a tool is not used by
administrators. What is needed is to launch a program on the
winbox, and Hans's program should do the trick.
Does anybody know other uses of Hans's program ?
