I just bought one of the Jenix DRO's from Tim Barnard. It's been up for
a couple days on the mill now, and I am pleased with it. The $637
BuyItNow price included CA sales tax, $30 for shipping to northern CA.
Brackets were less than useful. Mounted the X scale to the inside of 1.5
x 1.5 x 1/4 AL angle, being a 36" travel scale it overhung the ends of
the table and adapters where needed anyway. Now I have solid crash
protection. Modified the sheet metal cover, and now the scale is very
well protected from chips.
Y brackets did not work for me. Bar scale mounts to did not have holes
to line up with the Bridgeport holes, had to redrill. Vertical bracket
for reader head was not long enough, had to make from scratch,
horizontal bracket too long, had to trim.
Readout works fine. Offers some nice features compared to my old
AcuRite. Wish changing readout resolution was easier. It's not exactly a
hassle once I memorize the keystrokes, just that the AcuRite has a
button to toggle res. .0002 resolution, glass scales, bolt circles, and
some other nice features at a price not much more than a replacement
scale.
I went this route since new replacement scales are not available and
repair would have run close to the cost of what I ended up buying. If
you can buy new scales still, you'll save time/$$ buying a new one. But
if you are eyeing a Jenix, I think they are a very good value for the
money and Tim is a good person to deal with.
