I meant to comment on another point in this thread, earlier: Whether it does
harm to the driver or not, if you "unplug" a stepper with power-ON, you will
at LEAST get a nasty spark when the first contact "breaks", and doing that
once or twice will SURELY erode the contact-integrity, quite possibly
NOTICEABLY! Ya know the GOLD plating on those fancy "zero ohm
computer/military-grade connectors? That is 30 MILLIONTHS of an inch thick!
Plug and unplug those "dry", and the gold is gone after three or four times!
With ten amps through it, ONCE will do-in the "zero ohm" qualification!!!!!
