Hoyt,
I guess I've never seen a CNC knurling job where it couldn't be done
in one pass. For the really tough jobs an opposed knurl holder will
go to depth in one pass. Opposed knurl holders are made for both X
axis infeed and the Z axis type Jon mentioned.
My CNC knurling experience has always been on parts where the knurl
quality was a cosmetic feature or the finished diameter was close
tolerance and it seemed to me the quality and crispness diminished
with a return pass over the area. But, as I said, knurling is an art
not a science so if it works for you that's OK.
What was the situation where you needed repeat passes to complete the
knurl?
thanks,
Doug
