If you are looking for 3d modeling, the easiest I have seen is Millwizard by
Delcam. You can try the demo at www.millwizard.com. Price is reasonable at
$250. This is not a regular Cad/cam program like Bobcad or Vector but will
allow you to cut 3d solids in STL formats. I am currently testing Dolphin
which seems to offer a lot for 21/2d machining. There are lots of options. I
have owned Bobcad ver16 and did not upgrade from there because of lack of
support. I currently own Vector 9.3 and I am not having a lot of luck in
understanding it. I use TurboCad Ver 8 professsional and have used it since
ver 5 so I am getting pretty good with it as a cad program. I short I am
still looking for what I consider a good, versitile and inexpensive
solution. But for 3d models, the best CAM I have seen is Millwizard. Imsi
also has a program call stl??? that looks promising, but I have not been
able to work with it a lot. Sorry for not giving a direct answer but I have
come to the conclusion that each of these work in such diverse ways that if
you can find a program that works the way you think then they will all do
amazing things. Try the demos and see which works best for you.
Regards
Larry

I bought a MaxNC which is on my kitchen table but I can't seem to get BobCad
to do much even after taking their CD-Rom training and some support
interaction. It seems quite a convoluted program. Is MasterCam better?
There are some programs aimed at jewlery like Cimigraphi but it is very
expensive. I'm sure there are several more packages (including the prospect
of writing my own which I may attempt if there's no better option).

What are the software rankings by name, price, function, and ease of use?
Or if nobody has a list, then what works with 3D solid models, is easy to
learn & use, and is affordable?

Thanks,
Kirk Fraser
