Some things to consider when using PC supplies for other things.
First - From what I have read here and there, in most cases only the +5 is
regulated, the others are just full wave rectified off additional windings
on the transformer. At least in some supplies none of the voltages will be
correct unless there is a certain minimum load on the +5, and I don't know
what that load must be.
Second - Many of these PC supplies are totally intolerant of shorts. The
power supply semiconductors to an outstanding job of protecting the fuse
(personal experience).
Third - The "modern" ATX-style supplies won't start sitting bare on the
bench; you have to connect at least a couple of pins together and I don't
know offhand which ones.
You are probably better off to stick with a non-PC supply from BG Micro or
one of the other surplus dealers. Those supplies are generally current
limited and will stand up to all sorts of abuse.
