Maybe this is easier if one thinks about it a a zero-crossing detector.
Essentially op amp referenced to zero but clamped to +5 and zero on the
output. That should pretty much get rid of the hysteresis (sp).
If my memory serves me correctly; at least some of the heidenhain linear
encoders are relatively low res and they a/d the sine wave to interpolate;
really cute idea.
Hope it works the way you want it to.
