parallel port signal to relay

on 2002-08-31 19:05:46 UTC
Hi all,

I am looking for a simple circuit to turn on my motor (spindle) and
a solenoid for compressed air for a mister.

I was looking to run it from the parallel port directly, so isolation
may be beneficial.

I had been looking at just using a darlington (photo darlington?) to
power a 1 amp board mounted relay or possible a TIP120 or similar,
then a high amp relay. I hate to power three devieces as it can lead
to more headaches.

My spindle is a 220 VAC 1/3 hp single phase so a standard relay will
work, but I am looking for experience from those who know what works
and what doesn't.

I'm using a direct cable to terminal strip as my breakout box. so I
will put together a board for this circuit.

In my searching it seems the posts talk about which breakout board to
use (have not hard of a bad one yet) but not the circuits themselves.
