Just a note, you can get the basic drive types and technical motor
construction info from several vendor catalogs.
Shinano has a good detail of how a 2/4 phase stepper works.

Oriental has one of the few 5-phase details I have seen yet.

And I still don't have the driver detail figured out for these dorky
5 phase motors star/pentagon/10 wire arghh getting there though..
