IMO - The GNU public license does not prevent commercial use. If it did,
software like the GIMP and Linux, and companies like IBM and Sun would be
in deep trouble. The GNU does require that the source code be available
to the end user and encourages modifications to GNU software, that are
made public, also be GNU'd -- available to others.
What you are suggesting with respect to non-commercial activity sounds
much more like a personal copyright with preferences like many people
have for shareware.
