We have been through this before, there are methods
and software available on the web that allow you to
use structured light to do 3d scans. That seems to be
the most promising.
There was a program that allowed you to use
photographs to do the same thing, it was by a
commercial company, the lite version was free.
I have been doing 3d scans at work. We have 2 Minolta
laser scanners. It is really a pain, minolta wants to
sell you a turntable to do the scans with, but I have
yet to meet anyone that is interested in putting their
head on a turntable. The laser distance measurement
really hates to pick up hair and black colored things.
I think their registration could be improved quite a
bit.
