Define "Better".

Both mills are well engineered, well designed pieces of machinery. Each has
its own particular strengths/weaknesses, and each can produce excellent
results within its particular operating envelope. Conversely, both would be
less useful than a boat anchor if what you want to do is build a 1:1 scale
model of the QE2.

Some differences between the Taig 2018 and Sherline 5000:

Taig Sherline
---- --------
Fixed speed motor, 6 step pulley Variable speed motor, 2 step pulley
Spindle speeds 525-5200 RPM Spindle speeds 70-2800 RPM
Proprietary spindle taper #1 Morse
Bigger table (3.5" X 15.5") Smaller table (2.75" X 13")
More Y travel (5.5") Less Y travel (3")
Fewer standard accessories Big range of standard accessories
Accessories generally cheaper Accessories generally more expensive
Heavier build - 65lb (more rigid) Lighter build - 33 lb (less rigid)
$629 $550

Which one is "better" will depend greatly on your machining needs, and
other considerations, like whether you plan to purchase a Taig or Sherline
lathe, as accessories can be shared between a lathe and mill of the same
make. (In some cases, accessories can be transferred between Sherline and
Taig too, as both use the same spindle thread.)
