Hi everyone,
I definately meet the "Do it yourself" requirement! About 5 years ago
I caught my first glimpse at a working 3 axis CNC Bridgeport and that
was it! I was bugged! Ever since then I've been squirreling away any
and every piece and part I can find and reading everything
possible .Fortunately I've worked alot in the asset/surplus industry
for corporations so I've ended up with a ton of STUFF. So a few
months ago I finally got off my ass and started building a machine.
Going out in the garage at night has become like Prozac for me so my
wife is onboard! Anyway, I'm starting with a small, but powerful,
mill style router with a capacity of 12x12x3.5". I'm using 3 API P261
Microstep drivers with Vexta 2.6V-4.7A size34 steppers. ballscrews on
thompson bearings and rails. Parallel port interface and using a
Dewalt trim router. Haven't decided which software will be final yet.
Any suggestions(freeware or cheap to start with)would be appreciated.
Everything is together and I'm hoping to bring it to life in a couple
of weeks but we'll see.

Without getting ahead of myself, I've already got most of the
components layed out for the next machine. I'm figuring a gantry
style router and/or plasma cutter(possibly interchangable)with a size
capacity of 48" x 48" x ??. My question(s) for the group are: what
are your recommendations for a control system, and do you have any
personal info on any of them?

I currently have:
1. (3 more) API P261 microstep drivers.
2. Yaskawa Servopacks, I was actually looking to sell this system.
Any interest???? http://home.attbi.com/~graf-x/
3. Advanced Motion Controls 25A20R Brush type/PWM servo amps. ( I
have no interface board and not sure whats needed. Any thoughts??)
I also have various step drivers( ie camtronics 5A, and some 2.5A
uniplor drives.
Matched motors with all of above.
I even have a complete Proto-Trak Plus 2 axis system with ball screws
for a Bridgeport conversion. Servos, DRO, belts, pulleys. Also
available if any interest.(I just dont have space for a Bridgeport!)

I can definately see the simplicity and ease of using a stepper
system and I'm wondering if the results are worth the headaches with
servos. I've done a load of homework on servo systems and I still
feel like I dont know anything about them. Any advice, comments or
questions are welcome.

Thanks Dave.
If anyone is looking for any parts, let me know cuz I might have one
buried in the garage!
