Hi Bryan

I'm using Allegro's 3977, max 35 V 2.5 A with up to eight stepping.
They SEEM to work fine but don't go too close to 35 V unless you like
smoke, detonations, and melted pins. I'm running 31 V and 1.2 A with
quarter stepping. Socketed PLCC chips with a ground plane heat sink on the
top side of the board (and a small heat sink clamped to the top of chip for
my insecurity); hardly gets warm. Circuit is very similar to the one on
their site, although point to point wired. They do have samples available.
