Hi Kayla

Don't remove the nut!

I typically machine ballscrew ends through the spindle on the lathe.
I support the long end of the screw on the left with a teflon v-block.
I have my mill located such that I can put the v-block on the mill table
and adjust it for a steady rest for long shafts on the lathe. The mill is
just
a few feet to the left of the lathe location.

I clean the oil around the ballnut and just tape it in place somewhere
between the v-block and lathe spindle. When done I remove the tape,
clean and re-oil the area. The tape just keeps it from moving while
I am machining.

Removing the nut is a hassle you don't need!
