This is a good subject maybe someone with the time can
put together a website.
I have a friend on the other end of the size scale. He
has Hermes Engraving machine, that had the main board
die. It was a 8086 Multibus 1 board with propriotary
roms, a mouse took leak on the board and that killed it.
He was converted to a 3 axis stepper board & a 386 PC
running the control program. The old Hermes machines
used eprom cartridges to store jobs. and you have to
send them back to Hermes when the are full to have them
erased. The conversion cost about the same as having a
set of cartridges erased. Not including the new layout
software of course but he still came out ahead in the
long run.
