3 Phase in the UK

Oooookay,
Many months on and I've finally reached the conclusion on how much 3
phase is. First of all, Bill said it was fine for me to post this up on here
again but if you're going to reply please pack as much into each email as
possible so we don't kill the group.
I called Manweb, Scottish Power, Powergen, all of them, and only one was
of any help, they being Southern Electric. Their customer service is
absolute A1*+ quality. I had called Manweb more than 5 or 6 times and asked
for them to either find out how much it'd be or tell me the technicians
number so I could ask them. I call Southern Electric and she finds out for
me that day.
You don't have to be one of their customers to have the line put in,
it's up to the local host (Manweb in the North West) to do that for them. I
would recommend Southern Electric though purely because they seem bothered
if you spend money with them or not. It's £350 - 500 depending on where you
are in relation to the where they can take it off from. If you do the
trenching work yourself it can be less. You need to call and ask for the
technician to come round and check it out. Just to amuse you, some guys in
Scotland wanted a phone cable laying to their hill walker's hotel 7km from
the trunk and BT quoted them £147k for it, £70k if they dug the trench.
The line is something like 15 or 20kva, which easily enough for any
machine tools. That is... unless you're one of those guys that make me sick
on here with their HAAS centres!!!!! : ) If only they weren't so
heavy.............
All the best anyway,
John H.
