New members always come onto this list in moderated status. Bill
(primarily) and I look over their first few posts to filter out
spammers, crack software vendors, etc. Once we see a few posts that fit
in we switch them to the list settings of unmoderated. We do from time
to time switch people to moderated status if they don't want to follow
the list rules, are aggravating a problem on the list, or generally
making the running of the list a PITA for us. Once the differences are
worked out they are brought back to the list settings. Basically we view
our role here to ensure the survival and viability of the list. Bill has
a vision for the list and with 2700 people on it, keeping it all going
in the right direction sometimes involves making decisions that not
every member feels is correct. We are both open to discussion when these
things happen, but one of the list rules is that the discussion is
direct to Bill and/or me, not on the list.
So, now you know more about the running of the list than you ever cared
about. Just thought your question deserved a full answer so everyone can
understand.
I just checked your record and you are now on the list settings so the
only delay you will see is that of Yahoogroups. Usually it is pretty
immediate, but from time to time the lag will be hours or very rarely a
day or so.
