DSP56F805 for black box?

on 2002-10-15 18:10:16 UTC
I went back a few months through the posts and saw some discussion
about designing a "black box" unit that takes g-code
(serial?,usb?,ethernet?) and directly drives servos or steppers. I
have been wanting to find an excuse to play around with Motorola's
DSP56F805 chip for almost 2 years. Has anyone on this group used
this chip for motor control, or machine control? It has some neat
features, like 64K of flash, a 32 x 32 -> 40 multiply, 80mhz clock
yeilding 40mips operation, dual 4 input 12 bit A/D, 2 full quadrature
decoder modules, dual 6 channel PWM with programmable dead band, plus
a bunch of other neat stuff.

If anyone is interested in designing a controller with this chip, get
in touch...perhaps we could work together. I have more experience on
the digital side of things, including work with FPGAs (which could be
another option, albiet more work to design a processor and decoder
modules).
