To the group -
I note some questions about NAMES and want to reply - Bill (List Mom) started this list as a result of the first CNC seminar I organized about 3 years ago at NAMES - A couple of weeks ago they again asked it I would organize the programs again and I agreed to do so -
We have been offered the same "show & tell" display space on the main floor again - This is an area that we can use to show and explain to visitors about our CNC projects - As usual you can make contacts with customers and even sell products as long as it is kept on a "low key, non arm-twisting" basis - This is because we are being given space at no charge that other folks (vendors) have to pay over $500 for - The NAMES folks feel that primarily educational demonstrations about CNC is part of their own public service and therefore have been donating the space even though there is a waiting list for vendors who want to pay for it -
We also have a change to the Seminars this year - There will be two seminars - A much larger room is scheduled on the main floor - One will be Saturday and the other on Sunday - One will be oriented towards those whose primary interests are building CNC systems from the electronics, system software and related points of view - The other will be oriented towards those whose interests lie more in making chips and parts using CNC and view the electronics and system level stuff as more of a tool rather than their main interest -
At last years seminar we had to turn folks away and the room was standing room only - It should be a lot better this year -
The exact times are being negotiated and I will place a note on the CCED list as soon as finalized -
In the meantime, If you want to participate in either the "show & tell" or the seminars send me an e-mail OFF LIST so that I don't lose it among all of the list messages - I have set up an e-mail address that is different from my regular address solely for the purpose of handling NAMES communications - Please use the following - rolandfriestad@...
Ray Henry and I have just completed what I laughingly call the "Universal CNC Controller" prototype that will be published in HOME SHOP MACHINIST starting in the Jan/Feb 2003 issue - It will be demonstrated at NAMES -
For other purposes than NAMES, you can continue to use my regular address - cardinal.eng@...
