I know this is off topic, but I don't want anyone to dismiss Rhino as a
potential CAD solution.

It is quite easy to create aliases for any command in Rhino. Ian, go to
Tools>Options and select the Alias tab. There you can type in a letter/number
and the command that you want associated with it. That should make things a
bit easier!
