That is exactly what the pulse multiplier on the G3X0 series drive is for.
Back when Mariss introduced the G320 as a beta item to this group I got some
to play with. I was testing on a 1000 line encoder and on the slow computer
I was using I could not put out a fast enough pulse rate to make the motors
move at their potential. I discussed this with Mariss and suggested that he
allow a setting to read the encoder in 1x, 2x, 4x mode to reduce the pulse
count. His answer was to put the pulse multiplier onto the drive and call it
a G340.
