For one thing, the mfg's of them are not shy about pricing them. They
must think they are made of Gold !, so E-bay is your only bargain bet.
They are not so good if you are a "fiddler", or if you Beta test a lot
of components. It gets difficult to access components if you are having
problems or you want to simply change settings. Come to think about it,
if you want to clean inside or even check out how much dust/dirt is in
there, you have to wrestle the thing out of the rack and then crack the
top. I have one of those on a machine and I hate it when I want to make
a change. And, it gets dirty in there too. That fan drags a lot of
garbage in..... mine is on a Router.
It's like having a car that you'd be forced to pull the engine out the
bottom to check oil because they forgot to put an "opening hood" on it !
If I'd be forced to use them, I would put them on drawer glides with
enough wire behind to pull them out and still be able to work on it
Since I started using sealed NEMA boxes with swinging doors on machines,
I've been a happier person. The cabinet is fixed, I do not need to
support it if I slide it out, Do not need a "coil" of wire in case I
need to slide it out and keep it connected for troubleshooting, and,
most of them are much better sealed to the point they even have a gutter
and rubber seal over the door. This is real nice around coolant.
of course I'm just old and cranky about stuff like this.
