Ha! I get that pun a lot! In fact my most successful invention at work hereis the self-regulating polymer auto side mirror
heater. And it really
does use "less watts"!

My guess on the high voltage drives (like the ones I had) is that current
can be controlled even with lots of reactance. A good current source
must have high voltage capability since voltage is floated to maintain
a current value.

Hmm... that's 20v x 1.414 minus a couple of diode drops = 27vdc or so. As longas they are not autotransformers the secondaries
could be put 3 in series
or series /parallel to make a nice big 90v servo supply. They would also
be great for audio amp builders. I do that some and the 10 amp 100 volt
transformer I used on the last design cost some $$$.

I am desperately hunting for a deal on servomotors and will keep a lookout
for more big steppers for you as well.
