Chris,

Lots of good questions. Some I can answer and others I can only tell you
what I know. See below:

it on a typical office Computer that printers and such connected ? (avoiding
parallel port woes)

Some partial answers here. I have it installed on my computer at work
without any woe. I also have it on my main work computer at home with no ill
effects. Neither have a printer attached as I use network based printers in
both locations. I do have the dongle for Visual Mill on my home system and
when I have Mach1 running Visual Mill tells me there is not dongle attached.
It all clears up as soon as I close Mach1. The only hazard I have run into
is that there are some programs and background tasks (qttask.exe from Apple
QuickTime) that will really make your computer run slow if they are running
when you start Mach1. Sometimes killing the task and shutting Mach1 will not
clear the slowness and you have to reboot. For most people this is not a
problem as they do not run any of the programs that cause this trouble. To
avoid it if you do have them you just kill the task from Task Manager before
starting Mach1 and then all is fine.

So as far as I can tell it is pretty safe to run. I have not seen any blue
screen problems for a number of months and since it got past alpha release
around 5.

> Anybody using this on a Laptop ??

I swear I have heard of people using it on a laptop, but have no personal
experience.

> Is it just an executable, or does it modify the registry ?

More than an executable as it registers it's own kernel driver files and
such.

> How easy is it to remove it from a Computer ?

The install/uninstall package seems to do a very good job.

> Have you run it "side by side" with any of the Serial port type controls ?
Hazards ? Effects ?

Not quite sure the question here? It only writes to the parallel port so the
serial port should not be affected.

> If one registers it, or applys the registration, will that make any
difference to that Office Computer in any of the above issues ??

The registration gets you a license file that you put in the program folder
and you are then turned into a full registered installation from a demo
install. If you delete, move, or rename the file you will turn back into a
demo install. So it has no affect on the computer beyond the demo install.

> And finally, Is there any indication as to the cost of upgrades when
released from Beta for those who spend the $100 now ?

No cost what so ever. If you get a Mach1 license now you do not have to pay
for any upgrades to the full release version. Besides the price increase at
the end of the month, it is my understanding that Art will eventually be
componentizing the program. At that point you will buy a base controller
license and buy additional modules for graphic to g-code and other premium
features. Those features are now included in the license fee. Even when he
does componitize it, if you have a the full feature license that you get now
you will not have to pay any extra. Hope I explained this properly.

If anyone does decide they want to order Mach1 from my website there is no
delivery charge as it is sent by e-mail. When you check out you have to
select the e-mail delivery option from the shipping options list at a price
of $0.00. If you don't you will be charged for shipping.
