For discussion lets assume that it is a 8mm screw. What do the guys in
european countrys using to operate their machines. The motors and the
drives on this machine are siemens. The machine was built by
cincinatti millicron in 1982, if that helps any. I currently has tach
mounted on the motor shaft, and a gear driven resolver. I had planed
to remove both of these items and would have plenty of room for a
encoder. Could I use some sort of gear drive or small timing belt
drive for the encoder to get the ratio correct? I do not want to
change the screws as I was told that this machine has less than 500
hours on it. It was used as a project at a university, they
experimented with the control system. I bought the iron when they were
done. This is my last hurdle to
getting it running again. I think! Thanks again for the help. Don B
