Hello "bogkarzai",
Both regular steppers and hybrids have permanent magents in the
rotor, while the stator is energized by current. The difference is
that a hybrid will also have permanent magnets placed in the stator
as well. For a visual descrition, see the PDF page:46
http://www.pacsci.com/support/documents/stepper/stepsel.pdf
The extra permanent magnets in the stator help increase the amount of
torque the motor can produce(they also make the motor heavier).
Hybrids also generally have another feature that make them nice: less
detent torque. A motor that has relatively small detent torque is a
good candiate for use with a microstepping stepper drive (i.e. the XS-
3525/8S-3 3 axis Stepper Driver from Xylotex) (wink, wink, nudge,
nudge), as each microstep will be more evenly spaced than a normal
motor (with a larger detent torque), giving better accuracy when
microstepping.
