Patrick & all,
I too use MasterCam at tech school. The Posts included with our version (9.1)
are for Fadal, Fanuc and Fryer machining centers. We also use it for a
Hitachi/Seiki Wire EDM by editing the post. Very easy to do. (Remove all Z's, etc)
The Mastercam program post files can be modified in the program if you
know where and how. New ones can be created as well, knowing the machines
requirements. That's what costs big $$ now a days to have a dealer do it for you.
We have a student do it here. Just takes time and interest. Perfectly legal.
A lot of our students are attending for the hobby interest only and also
have home CNC machines. A Mastercam post can be modified in a text editor
to adjust the specific control word differences needed for the home
machines when the post is not quite exact. Bring in a home DXF file, run it
thru the Mastercam adding geometry, solids and tooling, then post.
I've made many steam locomotive parts at school & home with nary a hitch.
It's a fine program, but very intense in the solids area.
We use sneaker net to transfer posts to the machine's PC, even tho M'cam will
transmit (not control).
