Sort of funny you mention this. The boards I have done using the press and
peel toner system have been done on a t-shirt press I have. While I agree it
has many of the required elements, I don't think it is as good a solution as
a laminator. The major problem I see is getting enough pressure. With
rollers you have a line of contact so you are getting very high pressures
per unit of contact area. With the t-shirt press the pressure is distributed
over the whole platen, so while the total force is large the pressure per
unit of contact is actually quite low. Also, a t-shirt press is quit a large
and expensive item. A roll laminator can be gotten in the under $500 range
and I think I paid about $600 for my shirt press years ago.
But, if you have access to a shirt press it does do a reasonable job.
