Yes, it is all different. Mach1, as far as I know, does not support
feedback, and has step/direction
output, only.

EMC runs under a real time version of Linux, and can run step/direction
stepper or servo drives,
or analog servo amplifiers. You need some sort of interface for encoder
input and analog
output for the servo amplifiers. I make a set of cards for analog servo
amps, and also have
an outboard step pulse generator board with encoder input. See
