Post Processors?

I'm a beginner to CNC. Does every machine (mill or router controlled
by a personal computer) have a seperate g-code generator and motor
drive box (ie Flashcut)? Is this considered to be the Post Processor?
Or is the Post Processor part of the CAM program? If this message is
not appropriate to the group please inform me, so as not to do it
again. Thanks
