The G-code generator is usually part of your CAM program and is the
portion that is sometimes called a post processor. It could be a stand
alone program, but is most commonly just an integrated portion these
days.

The majority of the PC based control programs do not use a separate
motor drive box. The exceptions are Flashcut and DeskCNC/DeskWinNC. All
the rest generate the pulses in the computer and output them through the
parallel port.
