Steps and jumps

Jeff, and CCED gang,
This evenings experimentation has proven fruitful. At the end of last
evening;
Mach1 steps/in 4000 (20TPI screw X 200 steps/revolution)
Xylotex jumpers on Full step
Motors less noisey than with Maxnc but smooth and accurate
Axis travels 1" for requested 1" move
Now, after 'tuning';
Mach1 steps at 16000
Jumpers set for 1/4 step
Motors almost silent - just a whirrring sound - Ah, love.....
Axis travels 1" for requested 1" move
Z axis is still under powered but I am thinking I might use a 2:1 cog belt
reduction and move the motor to the rear for better balance. And adding
constant force springs to ease the weight.
I believe Mach1 is limited to 25000 steps so maybe 1/8 step with my setup is
not possible?
I will post some pics when I get this monster more finished.
Thanks to Jeff of Xylotex and to all you other people out there for a lot of
help to me and others.
