I found some software called DirectIO that is supposed to do this on
other Windows
versions. I would guess they have a version of it for XP by now.

What software are you using? Most software for real-time functions,
like machine motion,
don't work well under Windows DOS emulation, or as a native Windows
program, unless
the real-time part is done in a DLL or VXD. Check with the manufacturer
of the program
on what OS is best for it. With the availability of junked Pentium PCs
from the local
dumpster, you should just dedicate a computer to the CNC program, and
use whatever OS
is best for that special purpose.
