RE: [CAD_CAM_EDM_DRO] Unimat?

Personally, I'd save my money and apply it towards something a little more
substantial, such as the Sherline. The Unimat-1 has so much plastic on it
that it'd be useful as a training exercise to learn how to build CNC, but
wouldn't be good for much more than cutting wax models. A Unimat model 3
might make a decent desktop machine for conversion to CNC, except that it's
not been manufactured in quite some time. Machines are available via eBay,
but prices are those paid by collectors and not users. The Unimat DB and SL
machines are also available on eBay, sometimes commanding higher prices than
a new Sherline. These machines use two steel rods as the 'way' and are not
all that robust. However, one gent HAS added CNC to the Unimat. I believe
that you can see photos of this conversion either in the files section of
this list or in the files area of the Unimat list.
