When Tom Kaluga was developing his software for the DRO I tried to explain
to him how to calculate the different passes required to cut a with single
point threading tool. I don't know if he ever added this to his software or
not, but we wrote a freeware program (now on our web site) that makes these
calculations. It can be used for programming a CNC lathe with G32/33
cycles. The algorithm calculates a constant cross sectional area of cut per
pass, and will calculate up to 20 passes.
The program file is about 25K, and will run on Win 32 systems. At least one
person has installed it on a Win32S with Windows 3.1, but I don't recommend
it. The website has instructions for use. It is written in PowerBasic/DLL
and is very fast & compact.
In the latest version, it also outputs the geometry in a file called
plc.txt. This file is a format that VectorCam can import as actual
geometry. Using this geometry one can directly generate G-code, including
the G32/33 commands, and rapids up over & down to the next pass.
For links to this file & our Bobcad 16.1 demo (crippled but unexpiring),

Enjoy ;-)
