It's Alive!!! It's Alive!!!

O.K. Well maybe a bit over the top, but I have just completed my
Sherline CNC upgrade/retrofit. I wanted to take a moment to thank
everyone on the list who has guided/helped me along the way. I'm not
sure if I would have had the courage to attempt this upgrade without
the support several of the list members.

THANK YOU ALL!!

My Sherline 4400 retrofit was completed as follows:

1)Purchased 3 Superior Electric M063-FS-402C 150oz motors off of eBay.
2) Found an old AT PC Case (in my storage room) - Freebie!!!
3) Purchased 1 Shinano SST57P2301 Stepper (130 oz I believe) off of
eBay.
4) Purchased the FET4 "package" from Rustle of "Stepperworld.com".
5) Purchased Sherline 4400 CNC upgrade parts from Discountcampus.com
6) Purchased Mill Column upgrade and 1 extra coupler (for rotary
table conversion - later) from same.
7) Purchased all wiring, plugs, etc from Action-Electronics.com.
8) Installed all electronic components into the PC case.
9) Assembled the motor wiring harnesses (using 6-pin DIN plugs).

All in all, this has been a very plesant experience. I think that I
have been able to accomplish this for approx $500.00 not including
software. I was extremely pleased with the quality of the "package"
that I purchased from Stepperworld. It included the power supply,
printer cable, demo software, tutorials, FAQ's, and DETAILED wiring
diagrams for all of MY stepper motors, controller board, and power
supply. I can't say enough good things about them (I have no
affiliation with them, or any of the other vendors mentioned. I am
just a pleased customer who wants to tell everyone who I had the
pleasure of dealing with!!).

This morning was the "Smoke Test". It worked the first time!!! I
have to admit that I was a little hesitant to power it up for the
first time..... The possibility of all of the time and money up in
smoke... I will be posting photos of my finished project shortly in
case any of you might be interested. I will put them in the "manual
gear cutting" photo folder that I already have created.

I would be happy to answer any questions off line for anyone else who
has started down this path. It just proves that if I can do it, you
can too!!!

Thanks for letting me brag about my new "baby" a little,

Michael
