Are you sure it is losing steps or is what you are seeing the result of
resolution of your stepper motors / lead screw / drive coupling? Seems to
me that you would not get truly round holes with anything less than
microstepping drivers, hi reduction drive coupling and high TPI lead screws
when routing .25mm diameter holes using any stepper drivers. That's a hole
of 0.00984251968504 diameter, IMHO you should be drilling these, not routing
them.
