Dave,

There is a destructive error in what you wrote! DO NOT connect both
ends of a 6-wire motor coil together and try to run it that way. You
will destroy the drive.

The so-called "parallel" connection has the coils bucking, so
inductance and torque would be zero. Zero inductance will kill a
switching-type drive.

Otherwise everything else is just like it says in the "Step motor
basics white paper".
